A Little History |
|
Skitterland, previously known as Cedrus Deodara Tree "Hibernia"
or the "Doktershuis" (doctor's house) dates back to 5 April
1860. From 1919 to 1926 the house was inhabited, first by Dr
Hayden and then by Dr Stegmann. The stand boasts a Cedrus
Deodara tree, imported from the Swiss Alps and planted by Mrs
Stegmann. This is the only surviving tree of the original
consignment of cedars that reached Sutherland. Two trees -
seedlings of this tree - now stand, one on the church square and
the other at the Louw-House Museum. |

Our Units |
|
|
The building houses five luxury suites which are equipped, among
others, with a plasma screen TV, WiFi in all units, MNet/DSTV, fireplace (except
Sagittarius & Libra), heaters, under floor heating and coffee
facilities. In each suite there are electric blankets, down
duvets and woollen blankets.
Our five suites are named:
-
Sagittarius
- Aries
- Libra
- Taurus
- Hibernia
The first four suites pay homage to the item
that put Sutherland on the world map, namely SALT or Southern
African Large Telescope. The latter is called Hibernia in honour
of the original name of the building.
Safe undercover parking is available for
each unit.
